Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Patmos, an AI-powered Bible study companion mobile application and the website at patmosbible.com (collectively, the "Service"), provided by Mancini Tech Solutions LLC ("we," "us," "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who We Are

Patmos is operated by Mancini Tech Solutions LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company. Contact us at support@patmosbible.com or 11 Culver Lane, North Haven, CT 06473, USA.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Patmos. By using the Service, you represent that you are 13 or older. If you are between 13 and 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate information when creating your account
  • Maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that are inactive for an extended period.

4. The Service

4.1 What Patmos Does

Patmos provides:

  • An AI Bible study companion ("John") built on third-party language models
  • Tools to capture and study Bible passages via your device camera
  • A private journal for your studies
  • Access to the Patmos Commons, a public layer of theological insights

4.2 Service Availability

We strive to keep Patmos available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or factors beyond our control. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time without liability to you.

5. AI-Generated Content

John is an AI companion that generates responses based on your input and a system prompt. AI-generated content is not infallible. John may:

  • Make factual errors about historical, linguistic, or theological matters
  • Misinterpret photographs of Bible pages
  • Produce responses that do not align with your theological tradition
  • Generate content that requires further study or verification

You are responsible for evaluating John's responses and consulting qualified religious leaders, scholars, or other authoritative sources when making decisions of theological, spiritual, personal, or practical significance.

Patmos is a study aid, not a substitute for:

  • Professional pastoral counsel
  • Mental health treatment
  • Medical, legal, or financial advice
  • Trained theological scholarship

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (US) or your local emergency services.

6. Subscription Plans

6.1 Patmos Free

Patmos Free includes:

  • 1 full photo study (lifetime)
  • 5 follow-up messages with John (lifetime)
  • Unlimited short studies
  • Auto-Journal v1
  • Access to the Patmos Commons

6.2 Patmos Plus

Patmos Plus unlocks unlimited depth:

  • $9.99 per month, OR
  • $79 per year (save 34%)
  • 7-day free trial, no credit card required to start
  • Unlimited deep studies and follow-up messages

6.3 Founders' Lifetime

Available for the first 500 users only, day-one of public launch:

  • $199 one-time payment
  • Permanent Plus access
  • "Founder" badge in-app
  • Name on the public Founders' Wall at patmosbible.com/founders
  • Early access to new features (2-4 weeks ahead of general release)
  • Personal thank-you email from the founder
  • Membership in the private Founders' Circle community

6.4 Billing

Mobile app subscriptions are billed through Apple, subject to Apple's terms of service for in-app purchases. Payments, refunds, cancellations, and renewal terms are governed by Apple's policies. We do not directly process subscription payments for the mobile app.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage your subscription in your Apple ID account settings.

The Founders' Lifetime tier is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew.

6.5 Donations

Donations to support Patmos can be made at patmosbible.com/give via Stripe. Donations are not refundable except as required by law.

6.6 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices at any time. Price changes will be communicated to existing subscribers in advance and will take effect at your next renewal. You can cancel before the price change takes effect.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to access another user's account
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Use the Service to generate content that is defamatory, obscene, harassing, or otherwise harmful
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our written permission
  • Bypass technical limitations on usage (e.g., subscription tier gates)
  • Use the Service to train competing AI models
  • Submit prompts designed to manipulate John into producing content that violates these Terms or applicable law
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service without our written permission

We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate these Acceptable Use restrictions.

8. Your Content

8.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of content you create within the Service: your photos, your messages to John, your journal entries, and your personal study captures.

8.2 License to Operate the Service

By using the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, display, and process your content only as necessary to provide the Service to you. This license ends when you delete your content or your account, except as needed for backup, legal compliance, or aggregate analytics.

8.3 Public Commons Contributions

When John generates a study response based on your interaction, a sanitized version may be published to the Patmos Commons as an anonymous public breakdown.

By using Patmos, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, display, and distribute these anonymous Commons contributions. Commons contributions:

  • Do not include your name, email, or personally identifying information
  • Are filtered for personal application sections before publication
  • Are credited to "John (Patmos AI)" rather than to individual users
  • Remain in the Commons after your account is deleted

If you do not want your studies to contribute to the Commons, contact support@patmosbible.com to discuss options. Note: this may limit your ability to use certain features of the Service.

9. Our Content

The Service, including its software, design, brand, trademarks, the "John" character, the 5P study framework, and all original content we publish, is owned by Mancini Tech Solutions LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute our content without permission
  • Use our trademarks (including "Patmos" and "John") without permission
  • Remove copyright or proprietary notices

The King James Version Bible text included in the Service is in the public domain.

10. Third-Party Content and Services

The Service relies on third-party providers including Anthropic, Supabase, Railway, Apple, Stripe, ElevenLabs, and OpenAI. We do not control these providers and are not responsible for their actions, terms, or privacy practices. Your use of third-party services through Patmos is subject to those providers' terms.

11. Account Termination

11.1 By You

You can delete your account at any time through Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently erases your private data. Public Commons contributions remain (they are anonymous).

11.2 By Us

We may suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • We are required to do so by law
  • You engage in fraudulent or harmful behavior
  • Your account is inactive for more than 24 months

We will use reasonable efforts to notify you before termination unless doing so would compromise the security of the Service.

11.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, dispute resolution, and Commons contributions) will survive.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
  • AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR THEOLOGICALLY CORRECT
  • THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS
  • ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED

YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MANCINI TECH SOLUTIONS LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) US$100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Mancini Tech Solutions LLC, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Content you submit to the Service

15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

15.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at support@patmosbible.com to attempt informal resolution. We will work in good faith to resolve disputes within 60 days.

15.2 Binding Arbitration

If informal resolution fails, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will take place in New Haven, Connecticut, or by video conference at your election.

15.3 Class Action Waiver

You agree to resolve disputes individually. You waive any right to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative action against us.

15.4 Exceptions

Either party may bring claims in small claims court or seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property infringement.

16. Apple App Store Terms

If you use Patmos through Apple's App Store, the following additional terms apply:

  • These Terms are between you and Mancini Tech Solutions LLC, not Apple.
  • Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the Service.
  • In the event of any failure of the Service to conform to applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the Service to you (if applicable).
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing claims by you or any third party relating to the Service.
  • If a third party claims the Service infringes their intellectual property rights, Mancini Tech Solutions LLC, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving the claim.
  • You must comply with Apple's terms of service when using the Service.
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:

  • Posting the updated Terms at patmosbible.com/terms with a new "Last Updated" date
  • Sending an in-app notification or email for significant changes

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account.

18. Miscellaneous

Entire Agreement. These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Force Majeure. We are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of war, internet failures, and government actions.
